Taking a walk in New Territory is like being in Jurassic Park these days – there’s a hunt for dinosaurs!

Resident Nancy Hentschel made both local and national news because of two large dinosaurs placed in her front yard – a Tyrannosaurus rex and Velociraptor. She purchased them while on vacation in Arizona. Many welcome the prehistoric addition to the neighborhood.

“I’ve never had so many people knock on my door, say hello, tell me they love the dinosaurs, and ask if they can take pictures,” Hentschel said. “It’s been absolutely lovely and hasn’t slowed down a bit.”

Not everyone is happy about the dinosaurs, though. There has been some push back from the community – namely, the New Territory Residential Community Association. The area HOA wants the dinosaurs gone.

Hentschel said she brought them in knowing that they would not be uniform – a quality she believes the HOA wants homeowners to abide.
Her view is that uniformity and conformity do not add value to a community; people add value to a community. She thinks people together, can do great things for the community. And the people who have spoken to her understand the concept of community and want it.

“This is a form of art but it is also a form of protest,” Hentschel said. “The dinosaurs are now walking the community.”
