Hawaii petition appeal for condo Ombudsman

I have been contacted by Marcia Kimura, Hawaii Condo Unit Owner and Advocate, regarding legislative efforts to establish a Condo Ombusdsman plus regulatory Commission, similar to Nevada’s Real Estate Division (NRED).

Kimura has started a petition for condo unit owners to show their support for proposed regulation and oversight of Hawaii condominium associations. In previous years, proposals to create a Condo Ombudsman have failed to gain traction in the state Legislature. In addition to the Ombudsman’s advisory and investigative role, this year’s proposal is to add a 7-member Condo Commission to enforce Hawaii condominium statute.

Kimura’s appeal and links to access her petition follow:

Mediation, arbitration and litigation are seriously flawed alternatives for settling condo owner disputes.

If you are a Hawaii condo owner, please support the Petition In Favor of the Establishment of Hawaii’s Office of the Condominium Ombudsman and Seven-Member Commission, in order to convince legislators of the need for true justice in conflict resolution between condo owners and management parties without owners’ incurring prohibitive legal fees. The list will be confidentially presented to our legislators, who will NOT be contacting the signers.

Petition In Favor of the Establishment of Hawaii’s Office of the Condominium Ombudsman and Seven-Member Commission

As a Hawaii condominium owner, I am in favor of the adoption and passage of the bill to establish Hawaii’s Office of the Condominium Ombudsman and seven-member commission, as presented in the accompanying article, and allowing for additional sub provisions as developed, to enhance these measures. I believe that this would provide effective grievance, resolution and enforcement procedures for my issues.

To SUPPORT this, 1. Please go to ombudcommission@gmail.com. 2. Use the SUBJECT LINE ONLY to enter your full name, then the name of the condo you are an owner in.
Example: John (or Mary) Doe, ABC Towers. 3. DO NOT type any text or attach any files in the message area. No entries will be opened. These will be viewed and printed only from the “inbox” list view. 4. Click “Send.”
